What is Cold Sore?

Cold sore is caused by herpes simplex viruses that usually infect the mouth, throat, and parts of the face. Cold sore is not sexually transmitted disease. Cold sore can be transmitted through kissing and sharing usage of home items.

Who can get Cold Sore?

anyone can get cold sore regardless of age. most people get cold sore for the first time when they are between 6 months and 5 years old. Females are more likely to get cold sores during menstruation.

What are the symptoms of Cold Sore ?

Children with cold sore may not have any visible symptoms. Cold sore usually infects the lips.   Cold sores are commonly known to attack lips, nostrils, cheeks, or fingers. they often started with tinkling feeling and are often painful when in full capacity when cold sore about to recovers, it will normally break, ooze and get crusty. Once the crust dried up it will sheds off. Normally the cold sore will heal without leaving any scar on the skin. In severe cases, cold sore can spread from the lips to the inside of the mouth till the back of the throat. Gums may be swollen, get reddish and may bleed if provoked. In some case, the cold sore also infects the eyes which will cause it to be painful and very sensitive to light. Some cases also experienced high fever and sore throat. most infected people lose their appetite to eat. Some may also have headaches or bad breath.

Is cold sore contagious ?

yes. Cold sore is contagious. it is commonly transmitted through direct contact with mucus or saliva, usually by kissing or sharing home items with an infected person, such as eating utensils or towels. The contagious period when the cold sore are active and break out. Once the cold sore recovered and dried up, the volume of virus is small and the chances of transmitting to other people will be low.

How long does cold sore last?

Cold sore infection period can last 7-10 days.
